This mixed media latex work explores the act of covering as a form of ritual. Built through layered application, the surface develops a dense, tactile skin that absorbs light and resists immediate interpretation. Black functions not as absence, but as accumulation — a quiet weight that holds tension rather than release.
The use of latex references both protection and adornment, drawing from ceremonial dress and the discipline of the covered body. The work reflects an inherited visual language shaped by evangelical environments, where modesty, restraint, and ritualized appearance functioned as silent forms of devotion.
Rather than narrative or image, the piece offers a field — a surface that asks for stillness. It exists somewhere between concealment and reverence, where material becomes an object of contemplation rather than display.
