Inspired by black asphalt and worn playground pavement, this work draws from surfaces shaped by play that has long since disappeared. Layers of black acrylic and paver sand create a dense, uneven field, echoing ground once marked by running feet, scuffed shoes, and constant movement.
The texture holds traces of activity without depicting it directly. Time, weather, and neglect have softened the surface, blurring where impact once lived. The energy of play lingers only as pressure embedded in the material — anonymous, uncelebrated, and quietly absorbed.
Rather than nostalgia, the piece reflects on how spaces designed for joy outlive their purpose. Play fades, but the surface remembers. What is left is not innocence, but its imprint — worn, muted, and carried forward without ceremony.
